I'm a... Wizpert?

I was just invited to join Wizpert.com as a paid expert in Travel. Thank you, Michael Weinberg!

It's an interesting concept. I give them my skype name. People find me on their site as a qualified expert on budget travel. They call me on skype for advice. I'm paid an expert's fee by the minute.

For JTrek readers, friends, and family, this does not mean I am now charging everyone for advice. Just if you find me on Wizpert and don't actually know me. If you're reading this, and you want travel advice, please feel free to contact me, and I will not charge you a dime. I like helping people with travel because it means more people go traveling.

That said, Wizpert looks like an interesting concept, and I'll be curious to see how it plays out.

  4. I've been invited too and thought it might be a scam...any feedback on whether or not I should do it?

  5. It seems harmless so far, except that it's not working very well. I occasionally get a message asking if I'm free to talk, I say yes, and then the caller disappears. I haven't given them any information people couldn't find out on my profile here in this blog, so I'm not sure what they'd be scamming. Up to you, really.

  6. This invitation means a great respect to your expert abilities, a kind of confession that you are one of the best - congratulations!

  7. You should have the new Google driverless car take you on a road trip.
    It would be timely.
And energy efficient (if you believe Page and Brin)

  8. Thanks Joel, and others who commented about Wizpert.

Came across this thread and thought I'd provide some perspective, as the founder/CEO of Wizpert.

Hundreds of chats are taking place on Wizpert every week, but those are primarily in verticals that we have actively 'turned on', by ensuring expert responsiveness and growing the user-base. Sorry it's been a little slow in the Travel vertical. We will be focusing on it more over the coming weeks, and will keep you posted.
    Thanks for your patience!

  10. Since it's been a while now, are you still 'wizperts' and do/did you make any money?

  11. I'm still on the roster, but no, haven't made any money. I took a couple chat requests (IM only, no audio) to help people in south asia fix their ailing computers. That was months ago. No idea what the Wizpert folks are up to thesedays.

  12. Read the terms of service. They're ... not generous. You might get paid eventually, if they feel like it, maybe. Avoid.
